Prime of the Pops is referenced several times, while mention of Smash Hits prompts a small cheer from the viewers, but pleasingly The Band swerves the temptation to wallow in all-out nostalgia, ending with a number of sensible callbacks and the tying together of apparently peripheral plot factors, and the sense that actually the subsequent 25 years could be all proper too.
